BREWS AND BEARS

Held on the second Friday of each month from May through September, Brews & Bears offers an evening fundraiser experience at the WNC Nature Center. Guests can explore the park after hours while enjoying drinks, live music, and special wildlife programming. The event features enrichment activities for resident black bears Uno and Ursa, including their favorite frozen treats, alongside educational opportunities with BearWise and the Safe Passage Wildlife Crossing Project focused on protecting wild bear populations. Proceeds benefit the animals and programs of the Nature Center.

MOTHER'S DAY BRUNCH

This Mother’s Day, guests are invited to enjoy a thoughtfully curated brunch experience featuring a selection of handcrafted seasonal dishes. The menu includes favorites such as cast-iron sourdough pancakes, shakshouka, smoked trout omelets, Jambon Beurre croissants, and other artisanal offerings. Designed as a relaxed and intimate gathering, the brunch offers families a chance to celebrate and spend time together while leaving the hosting to someone else.

Celebrate Mother’s Day weekend with two special events full of drinks, music, and community fun. On Saturday, guests can enjoy brunch, specialty cocktails, coffee, local vendors, and low-ABV favorites during the South Slope Stroll’s “Mom’s Day Out.” Then on Sunday, the rooftop turns into a sunset jazz lounge featuring live music from Anne Coombs with Company Swing, curated cocktails, and complimentary snacks.

MARKET

The Free Community Market at Montmorenci UMC serves as a MANNA Partner Agency, offering weekly access to free groceries for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in Hominy Valley and nearby communities. Open every Wednesday, the market operates in a client-choice format, allowing neighbors to select the foods that best meet their needs while supporting healthier households and a stronger, more connected community.

Volunteer responsibilities may include supporting intake, assisting with client check-in, overseeing the shopping area, restocking tables, assisting neighbors with groceries, and maintaining safety in the parking area. At the close of each market, all volunteers pitch in with cleanup and breakdown.

MOVIES IN THE PARK 2026

Asheville Parks & Recreation invites the community to Pack Square Park on the second Friday of each month for a free outdoor movie series featuring family-friendly favorites on a giant screen at dusk. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and arrive early for the Rec n Roll Play Zone, which opens about an hour before showtime with games, music, activities for kids and teens, and themed giveaways while supplies last.
