What: Cradle of Forestry season opening day with "Old-Time Plowing and Folkways" program.

When: Site will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily Saturday through Nov. 10.

Where: U.S. 276 in Pisgah National Forest near Brevard, six miles north of Looking Glass Falls and four miles south of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Entry fee: Admission is $5 for adults and free for ages 15 and younger and those with Federal Recreation passes and Golden Passports. Entry is free on Tuesdays.

Details: You know spring has finally arrived when the Cradle of Forestry opens for the season. The site, which true to its name really is where the study of forestry in America was born, is a great educational and recreational resource.

Stroll the paved trails through the forest or check out the indoor interactive exhibits and watch the 30-minute film, "There's Magic at the Cradle" in the Forest Discovery Center.
