2/18/2010 - Asheville's Micro-Brewing Community
Asheville boasts one of the nation's premiere micro-brewing communities. With thirteen local breweries offering the finest quality brews and ales, Asheville is sure to please even the most discerning connoisseur. New breweries are opening, like The Lexington Avenue Brewery (The LAB), and more established breweries are thriving, like Highland Brewing, celebrating their fifteenth anniversary. All of the breweries feature tap rooms on site, and some, like Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company, offer a full menu as well as entertainment such as live music and film viewings. There are many popular seasonal brews offered by various companies like Black Mountain Bitter (Highland Brewing), and Irish Red Ale (Pisgah Brewing). Pisgah was the Southeast's first certified organic brewery. LEAF Amber, another seasonal ale by Pisgah, is brewed in collaboration with the Lake Eden Arts Festival, an annual camping and music festival held in nearby Black Mountain. With the ever growing interest the craft-brewing community has garnered, Asheville is sure to remain among America's most dynamic brewing cities.
