7/2/2009 - Green Home Tour
by Asheville Citizen Times
The Environmental and Conservation Organization is organizing its second annual Green Home Tour in August in conjunction with the Southern Energy and Environment Expo on Aug. 22 and is looking for green homes that showcase green technologies. The homes should be in south Buncombe, Transylvania or Henderson counties and feature a high degree of green technology in their construction or retrofit.
Examples include homes that demonstrate sustainable design in their use of energy, water and materials, and reduction in impacts on human health and the environment.
Increasingly people are realizing that green homes provide substantial savings to the homeowner in utility costs as well as health costs due to a healthier inside environment, ECO Executive Director David Weintraub said in a news release. Green Home Tour spotlights some great examples of what homeowners and builders have done to remodel or build a home that works with the natural environment, saving energy, conserving water and saving money.
The featured homes need not be new construction since ECO is interested in showing both newer homes as well as older homes that have made substantial changes to become more energy-efficient. The Green Home Tour is a fundraiser for ECO to help support its renewal energy and green infrastructure programs.
The Green Home Tour will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 22.
