6/21/2013 - Mild, wet summer ahead for Asheville area
by Sabian Warren
ASHEVILLE -- Landscaper Charlie Lawrence says he can't remember a better spring in terms of mild temperatures and plentiful rain, conditions that are good for his business.
"The mowing part of it is going well," said Lawrence, owner of Charlie's Lawn and Landscaping Service of Asheville. "It's been an ideal spring. It's just been real comfortable. I hope it stays like this the whole summer."
Lawrence may get his wish. A long-range forecast for Asheville from the National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center calls for temperatures to be about average and rainfall to be above average for July, August and September.
If accurate, the summer -- officially starting today -- would be an extension of a weather pattern that has produced only one 90-degree day so far and record rainfall.
