ASHEVILLE -- Spring may have arrived later this year, but the housing market hasn't been hibernating over the winter.
Home sales shot up 21 percent across Asheville and much of Western North Carolina in the first quarter of 2013, pointing to a once sluggish housing market finally shaking off the Great Recession.
Even a rainy weekend at the end of April couldn't keep buyers away from open houses showcasing new homes on the market, said Neal Hanks, president of Beverly-Hanks & Associates. "We've been busy," Hanks said.
