Equinox partners with NOAA on world stage
ASHEVILLE - Equinox Environmental, in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, presented a poster at the World Environmental and Water Resources Congress conference in Palm Springs, Calif., where national and international professionals convened to discuss pressing issues in the environmental and water resource fields.
The presentation, "The Effects of Global Climate Change on the Water Cycle and Water Quality: The Use of Stormwater Best Management Practices to Address Future Impacts," discussed the impacts of climate change on the water cycle, the projected trends and changes in precipitation and the use of stormwater management strategies. The group proposed integrated stormwater management as a way to adapt to weather pattern changes.
Equinox and NOAA will also present in Asheville on July 18-20 at the 19th Conference on Applied Climatology: Practical Solutions for a Warming World.
UNC Asheville named a best value
ASHEVILLE - UNC Asheville was named one of America's "10 Best Colleges for the Money" by Bankrate.com, an online source of financial information. UNCA was the only college in North Carolina to earn a place on the list.
Bankrate.com examined the admissions selectivity and net cost for middle-income families. UNCA was named a value for in-state and out-of-state students.
U.S. News and World Report listed UNCA among the nation's liberal arts colleges with the strongest commitment to undergraduate teaching and was one of 25 universities to make the list of "stellar" schools for undergraduate research. UNCA has been praised as a best value in the most recent rankings by the Princeton Review, Fiske Guide to Colleges and Kiplinger's Personal Finance.
Local outfitter recognized by TripAdvisor website
BRYSON CITY - Wildwater Adventure Centers' Nantahala Gorge Canopy Tour was awarded a 2011 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. TripAdvisor, a travel website, presents this award to properties that consistently receive excellent ratings from TripAdvisor members.
Wildwater's Nantahala Gorge Canopy Tour features 11 zip line sections and six sky and transfer bridges, for ages 10 and older, from 70-250 pounds. Canopy rangers teach visitors about regional history, culture and plant life.

Funeral coaches to honor veterans
ASHEVILLE/ARDEN - Groce Funeral Homes in Asheville and Arden acquired two new Cadillac funeral coaches. The vehicles are equipped with flag staffs and military service emblems to honor deceased veterans during funeral processions.
Groce Funeral Homes partnered with the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team and the N.C. National Guard Memorial Team to recognize veterans.
