3/9/2007 - Segway Tours Coming To Downtown Asheville
by Karen Chávez
ASHEVILLE Starting Monday, you can glide your way through downtown Asheville.
Wes Wehking will begin offering Segway tours with his new business, Moving Sidewalk Tours. Wehking, 27, began the guided Segway tours at the North Carolina Arboretum in fall 2005 and is now offering guided tours starting at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce on Montford Avenue.
Tours on the battery powered, computerized, self-stabilizing human transporters will begin with a 45-minute to one-hour training session and then spend two hours gliding past points of interest including the Asheville Urban Trail, the Vance Monument and the Grove Arcade.
Wehking can accommodate up to four guests per tour, which start daily at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tours are $45 per person through March, and will increase to $55 per person in April.
For more information or to make reservations, stop in at the Asheville Visitor Center or call 776-TOUR (8687) or visit www.movingsidewalktours.com.
